The project involved the conversion of an existing Sports Hall into a 300-seat Studio Theatre.
This presented a number of challenges; the existing services being completely unsuitable for the new use. This particularly affected the electrical services design, and negotiations were required with the various Authorities to ensure the emergency lighting and fire alarm system complied with the local requirements for a public entertainment licence.
Additionally the existing electrical supplies to the site had reached full capacity and could not, therefore, serve the new facility. Indeed the College had already experienced major projects with overloading. After conducting a thorough study, we negotiated with the local Supply Authority for a larger transformer to serve the site and then designed a new electrical ring main to distribute the enhanced supply.
